Telling Stories

an aging willow–

its image unsteady

in the flowing stream

Hello Friends and Family!

Today, April 17, is International Haiku Poetry Day, and the beautiful haiku above by Robert Spiess invoked in me thoughts and feelings about aging and life.

The image above reminds me of a wise elder having been battered by storms, bent but not broken, watching as the river of life flows around them ever-changing. We see it every day here at Reach Out Morongo Basin, our elders who have weathered so much in their lives yet continue to rejoice in it.

One of the greatest joys of my job here is listening to the stories they impart. Stories of childhood and family, love and loss, happiness and heartbreak – all coming together in the stream of their lives. And it is in this sharing of experiences that we make the human connection that binds us together.
To help us along this road of sharing experiences, we have started a new Facebook Group called “Morongo Basin Neighbors Helping Neighbors.” The purpose of this group is to share our experiences with one another on life, volunteering in your community, helping a neighbor or even a stranger. I can hardly wait to see the stories you share on what you do to help make our beautiful Morongo Basin community better.

Until then – Peace, Love, and Happiness!
