Keeping Busy This Fall

FALL!!!! BEAUTIFUL, GLORIOUS FALL!!! What a wonderful time here in our desert paradise home! Temperatures are cooling off and giving relief from our hot and humid summer. Lots of old timers said this was one of the worst summers in memory because of the humidity, so these balmy 80 degree days have lots of people feeling their oats!

With the cooler weather, desert residents kick into high gear with events, fundraisers, and so much more. Seems like every weekend has an event (or two or three) to do, and that is no different for us here at Reach Out. Our weeks and weekends have been packed chock full of fun with no end in sight till almost Christmas!

Here at the Twentynine Palms Senior Center, we have HICAP (the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) doing their first Enrollment Clinic on October 31 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Come learn about upcoming changes to your Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans for 2019.

Our 13th Annual Craft Fair and Bake Sale for Reach Out will be held on November 3 and 4 at the Twentynine Palms Senior Center. We have over 20 vendors with handcrafted items like wood carvings, wreaths, soap and body creams, quilts and crocheted goods, and more. We also have an outdoor rummage sale with antiques, vintage glassware, furniture, and more! And don’t forget the Bake Sale! Homemade baked goodies will be offered for sale as well as handmade fresh flour tortillas! Pair those with a bowl of Chili Colorado and get your holiday season off to a great start.

On November 10, we will be having a Free Flu Shot Clinic and POD (Point of Distribution) training in coordination with the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health. Flu Shots will be provided to men, women (including pregnant women), seniors, and children who are three (3) and older. A parent or guardian must accompany children under 18. The Twentynine Palms Senior Center is a designated POD site, and this flu shot clinic will provide a test environment for the Public Health Department and the City of Twentynine Palms Emergency Management to exercise plans and procedures as a response for a local outbreak or pandemic influenza such as the 2009 H1N1 Pandemic.

Plans are in the works for a Zumbathon® fundraiser in November, and we are working on finalizing a venue. Keep your ears open for this awesome event. It’s a great way to dance, donate, and have a great time for a great cause!

And, last but not least, mark your calendars for our Holiday Brunch and Volunteer Appreciation on December 15, 2018 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. This is one of our favorite events when our staff, volunteers, donors, and clients all come together and give thanks for the past year. We provide the ham and other entrees, and everyone brings their favorite dish to share for this potluck. Invitations will be going out in the next week, so mark your calendars!

We hope to see you at one (or more) of these events, and, as always, we wish you peace, love, and happiness!
