1: the condition of having or being composed of differing elements : variety; especially : the inclusion of different types of people (such as people of different races or cultures) in a group or organization programs intended to promote diversity in schools
2: an instance of being composed of differing elements or qualities : an instance of being diverse a diversity of opinion‘Diversity.’ I just love that word! I love even more what it means. It means we are all different types of people in the one human race. We are diverse ethnicities, religions, backgrounds, lifestyles and beliefs, yet we all come together to share this experience we call life.
As an organization, we strive to be diverse in the range of services we provide – transportation; caregiving support; home repair and yard work; friendly visits and phone calls or help with reading mail and filling out forms.
As an organization, we are made up of various religions, ethnicities and lifestyles. Catholics, Christians, Buddhists and Atheists. White, Latino, African American and Native American. LGBTQ and Straight. A loving spectrum of humanity that enables us to truly connect with the people we serve. Being diverse means that we can have a personal and meaningful way to open communications with our senior and disabled neighbors that we may better serve them.
Just as we have diversity in our organization we have a wide diversity in the clients we serve. With this being ‘PRIDE’ month we are featuring some articles on the challenges faced by our LGBTQ seniors. More than 39 million people in the U.S. are age 65 years or older including 2.4 million people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT). As the Baby Boomer generation ages, the older adult population will increase from 12.8 percent to an estimated 19 percent in 2030.
Meeting the needs of this growing population with their unique health, financial and social needs is something we at Reach Out Morongo Basin will be striving towards as we expand our diversity.
